1) Silver Ion Fabric Technology (T-Shirts)
What it is
Silver ion fabric is a textile where silver is incorporated into the fibre or applied as a durable finish. The intent is to allow small amounts of silver ions (Ag+) to be available at the fabric surface, especially in the presence of moisture (like sweat).
Silver ions are widely documented in scientific literature for antimicrobial activity. In everyday apparel, the primary practical goal is odour management, as odour is largely driven by bacteria metabolising sweat compounds.
How it works (mechanism-level, readable)
1) Ion availability at the surface
During wear, moisture and salts from perspiration help mobilise trace amounts of silver ions at or near the fabric surface.
2) Broad antimicrobial action (how silver affects microbes)
Modern literature describes multiple overlapping pathways for silver’s antimicrobial action, with silver ions often central:
- Membrane disruption: silver ions interfere with microbial membranes and permeability.
- Enzyme interference: silver ions bind to functional groups in proteins (including thiol systems), impairing enzymes and respiration.
- Cellular stress: silver exposure promotes oxidative stress and downstream microbial damage.
These effects reduce bacterial growth on the fabric and contributes to significantly less odour build-up between washes.
What it does (and doesn’t do)
What it can do
- Help manage odour by discouraging the growth of odour-associated bacteria during wear.
- Support a fresher feel between washes (results vary with sweat level, climate, wear time, garment age, and care).
What it doesn’t do
- Does not replace laundering.
- Is not medical treatment and makes no claim to prevent illness, infection, or disease.
- Is not PPE and makes no claims regarding viruses.
- Performance varies; different microbes respond differently, and effectiveness can change over time with wear and washing.
Care instructions (to preserve performance)
Silver-based finishes and infused treatments generally last longer when you minimise harsh chemistry and excessive heat:
- Wash cold or warm (not hot) with a gentle detergent.
- Avoid bleach/chlorine products.
- Skip fabric softeners (can leave a coating on fibres).
- Wash inside-out to reduce abrasion.
- Air dry where possible; tumble dry low heat if needed.
- Avoid harsh stain removers unless necessary; spot-treat gently.
Environmental & safety notes
Silver treatments in textiles are widely used and also studied for environmental considerations, particularly silver release during laundering and potential implications for wastewater systems. Studies report that silver (including nanoscale forms, depending on treatment type) can be released from some treated fabrics during washing. Release amounts vary by treatment method, detergent chemistry, temperature, and garment age.
Our approach is to be transparent, avoid exaggerated claims, and focus on the real-world benefit we design for in apparel: odour management during wear.
2) Modal Fabric (Briefs)
What it is
Modal is a regenerated cellulose fibre (rayon family). It is plant-based and made from cellulose, typically derived from wood pulp (often beechwood), then carefully engineered into exceptionally smooth fibres, making it well-suited to close-to-skin comfort.
Why we use Modal in briefs
Briefs have one job: stay comfortable all day. Modal deliver that:
- Soft, smooth hand feel for high-contact areas.
- Low-friction feel that sits comfortably under jeans, workwear, and training gear.
- Breathable comfort with a non-plasticky feel.
- Shape retention to help maintain fit over time.
- Clean drape and finish for a premium base-layer feel.
How it’s made
Modal starts with cellulose (plant material). The cellulose is processed into a solution, formed into fine fibres, then spun into yarn and knitted into fabric.
Modal vs other common underwear materials (clear and customer-relevant)
- Vs cotton: Modal is typically chosen for a smoother hand feel and a more consistent comfort feel through long wear, especially when blended for stretch recovery.
- Vs “bamboo”: Many “bamboo” underwear fabrics are rayon/viscose made from bamboo (same broad regenerated cellulose category). Fibre quality and supply chain matter more than the buzzword.
- Vs synthetics (poly/nylon): Modal is often preferred for a softer, less plasticky feel against skin.
Care guide (keep softness + fit)
- Cold to warm wash.
- Gentle detergent.
- Avoid bleach.
- Skip fabric softeners.
- Line dry where possible or tumble dry on low heat.
How do I determine my size for your clothing?
To find the right size, we recommend using our size chart on each product page. This chart provides detailed measurements to help you select the size that best fits your body type. Feel free to email or contact us on Instagram or Facebook and we can help you out with sizing.
FAQs on Silver Ion T-Shists and Modal Briefs
Silver Ion T-Shirts — FAQs
What does “silver ion infused” mean?
It means silver is incorporated into the fabric or applied as a durable finish so that small amounts of silver ions are available at the surface, especially when exposed to moisture (such as sweat).
Will it stop all odour forever?
It can help manage odour for many people by discouraging the growth of odour-associated bacteria, but results vary by person, climate, wear time, garment age, and care.
Can I wash it less?
You may notice less odour build-up between washes, but it does not replace laundering. Hygiene depends on sweat level and personal preference.
Does it kill viruses or prevent illness?
No. These garments are not PPE and do not claim to prevent illness, infection, or disease.
Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Many people wear silver-treated fabrics comfortably, but sensitivities vary. If you have known sensitivities, patch-testing is sensible.
How do I keep performance strong?
Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals, skip fabric softeners, and keep the heat low. These steps generally help preserve textile finishes and maintain its comfortable fit.
Modal Briefs — FAQs
What is modal, and why does it feel so soft?
Modal is a regenerated cellulose fibre engineered into very smooth fibres, creating a soft, premium hand feel that’s ideal for close-to-skin wear.
Is modal breathable?
Yes. Modal fibres are hydrophilic (they attract and absorb moisture), which helps the fabric feel less clammy and stay comfortable and breathable all day.
Will my briefs stretch out?
In modal-elastane blends, elastane provides stretch and recovery. Proper care (gentle washing at low heat) helps maintain the fit over time. A good fit is important and helps prevent ride-up, making our briefs your go-to product every time.
How should I wash modal briefs?
Cold–warm wash, gentle detergent, avoid bleach, skip fabric softeners, and use low-heat drying to preserve softness and fit.
